Een weblog over webdesign & internet
Big book of webdesign
Vandaag kreeg ik een e-mail met de uitnodiging om te participeren in "Big book of web design.com".
"After reviewing your portfolio, we would like to inform you about the Big Book of Web Design. An effort to create a collection of websites designed during 2006 and represents the trends and techniques used by web design firms and freelancers this year." aldus de zender van de e-mail.
Op zich leuk dat ze aan ons denken..toch jammer dat er dan wel weer 50 dollar betaald moet worden om erin te komen. Nog een nadeel: "Using the famous flash component “page flip”, the Big Book of Web Design will be created using this technology.".. zonde!
Helaas, het wordt hem dus niet, maar ik ben wel benieuwd naar het resultaat dat straks te downloaden valt vanaf de site. Voor nu hebben ze wel alvast een demo beschikbaar gesteld.

Hello there,
well, just wanted to say that i focus on the result and not on the presentation technology and this is the reason i am using page flip. Anyway, i am not here to apology for an effort that so many people around the world embraced.
I was just waiting from you at least to have the courtesy to respond to my email explaining the reason that you don't want to participate.
29 november 2006
Yes, I could have done that.. but I didn't because I think the focus is on money too. It's a good idea though and I'm looking forward to the result so keep me posted.
29 november 2006
Of course and i will keep you posted. Hm.. about the money, well we decided to publish 1000 copies of the big book on a real book and send it to the participants including the cd-rom just go and ask your local print house how much the whole thing would cost. To sum up, make a quick calculation with the following: print 1000 books of 500 color pages, produce cd-rom, pack them and ship them (we don't charge packaging and shipping).
You ll then understand that even the money is not our goal.
29 november 2006
Well okay, that sounds fair enough.. good luck!
Will the online version also contain 500 pages? In that case I REALLY would say the pageflip flash is not the way to go..
29 november 2006
Trust me it works.A prototype with index pages, search option and bookmarks makes it seem just fine.
29 november 2006
Well, for SEO and usability reasons I still think it would be better to use another technique, but I'm gonna wait and see..
29 november 2006
From this point of view you are right. Anyway discussing about it, is always good :).
Regards,
Gerasimos

True and now we're on it.. I think those two are actually the most important factors for a good website these days (together with content).
